Recommended Trees for Reforestation Planting  in Columbia

If you need to plant a new tree on your property, you may wonder what you should plant. Forestry and Beautification has compiled a list of trees for your consideration. Grouped by mature size, these trees were selected based on their proven success at reaching maturity in Columbia’s right of ways. The oak species are extremely hardy and are the go-to tree when there is unobstructed canopy space and sufficient soil area combined with rough conditions, such as nearby parking and compacted soil. Certain cultivars were chosen due to their increased heat tolerance, such as the ‘Oklahoma’ redbud, or disease resistances, such as the ‘Frontier’ and ‘Emerald Sunshine’ elms. Forestry and Beautification also plants the native blackgum as its nectar and fruit support pollinators and wildlife. Forestry and Beautification constantly seeks new tree species or cultivars that can survive Columbia’s blistering summer heat coupled with all too frequent droughts, and the occasional excessive rainfall from passing storms.
